Medlite IV

The Medlite Q-Switched YAG laser is one of the most advanced lasers available today for the removal of pigmented lesions; freckles, "age spots," "liver spots," and various birthmarks, generally referred to as pigmented lesions. The Medlite provides the appropriate wavelength of light for absorption by abnormal melanin concentrations. The Medlite also delivers the light in very short, high intensity pulses for maximum melanin destruction. The use of this specific combination of wavelength and rapidly pulsed light results in minimal damage to normal skin while providing maximum abnormal melanin removal.
The Medlite laser emits light in very short flashes of light called pulses. The impact of the energy from the powerful pulse of light is similar to the snap of a thin rubber band. After the treatment, the area will feel similar to a slight sunburn. Typically, within a day or so, any discomfort disappears. The area may remained reddened for two to four weeks. After the redness clears, the skin is returned to its natural smooth coloring and texture.

Now Permanent Hair Reduction Can Be Achieved !

Long Pulsed Alexandrite
At last, a new laser treatment provides long-term hair removal for large areas, without the difficulties and commitment involved in electrolysis. And it's available right here in our facility. This new procedure offers an alternative with many added benefits:

  • Fewer treatments required
  • Suitable for large areas
  • Shorter course of treatment
  • Accuracy
  • Greater "coverage" — Each laser pulse treats several follicles at the same time.
  • Non-invasive
  • No risk of needle-transmitted disease.
  • A cooling spray for patient comfort.

The Long Pulsed Alexandrite utilizes the latest laser technology to remove hair with a minimum of pain inconvenience and side effects. The laser emits a powerful beam of invisible light which passes harmlessly through the skin, but is absorbed by the hair follicle. By selectively absorbing the laser energy, the hair follicles are disabled, impairing their ability to grow hair.
The key to the effectiveness of the Alexandrite is the principle of Thermokinetic Selectivity. By properly adjusting the pulsewidth (the amount of time the laser is on) the laser light is able to pass  unaffected  through the thin layer of skin pigment and reach the deep hair follicle. At the follicle level, the laser energy is absorbed and transformed into heat that disables the follicle. As a result, hair growth is impaired without affecting the surrounding tissue.
The Dermatologic Laser Center has treated over 1000 patients in the last year with the Alexandrite laser.  To summarize our experience with this device, we have had very few patients with full return to baseline.  The results have been superior to ruby and yag lasers.  Most patients achieve a very high degree of hair count reduction in the area treated.  Most treatments in the facial area require 4 to 5 sessions, with an interval of six to 8 weeks between the procedures.  Histological examinations performed up to six months later appear to confirm that most hair follicles in the facial areas were destroyed.

Candela ScleroPlus Laser
The laser treatment of vascular skin problems may require multiple visits, but the results are superior to those of any other treatment available.  The Dermatologic Laser Center is fortunate to have the Candela ScleroPlus laser for the treatment of: birthmarks, ruddy complexion of the face and neck, facial veins, and even stretch marks resulting from pregnancy and growth spurts.  Telangiectasia or spider veins (less than 1 millimeter) commonly seen on the legs and face are easily zapped away.  This laser has fewer side effects, leading to quicker healing and is gentler on the skin.

The ScleroPlus produces an intense but gentle burst of laser light that passes harmlessly through the skin and is selectively absorbed by the vessel. The light produced by the laser generates heat within the vessel, destroying it without causing thermal injury to any of the surrounding tissue.

The latest advance in the ScleroPlus Laser is the Dynamic Cooling Device.  It is a unique device that emits a short spray of coolant on the skin before each laser pulse minimizing any discomfort by selectively cooling the top layers of the skin during laser treatment.

The Erbium Laser
One of the more acclaimed uses of lasers in dermatology is laser skin resurfacing.  This involves use of the carbon-dioxide (CO2) laser for deeper wrinkles and acne scars or the newest laser available called the Erbium.  Drs. Brown and Thompson  of the Dermatologic Laser Center are especially pleased to offer this newest laser for resurfacing wrinkles and acne.  They were the first in the state to have used this exciting technology.

The Continuum Biomedical Erbium laser is the first clinically proven Erbium laser for skin resurfacing and the treatment of wrinkles. Patients treated with an Erbium laser feel only mild to moderate discomfort during treatment and usually require only a topical anesthetic or none at all. Erbium patients also enjoy the tremendous benefits of healing within only a matter of days to a few weeks, instead of months.

The Erbium laser generates the exact wavelength of light (at 2.94 microns) which is optimally absorbed by water. Because skin cells are mostly water, the laser's energy is almost entirely directed into the specifically targeted cell resulting in an instantaneous removal of cell layers. The Erbium laser also only penetrates the skin approximately 30 millionths of an inch at a time for incredibly precise cell removal control. Only the damaged skin is removed, allowing new skin to quickly regrow in its place.

Any laser light not absorbed by the water scatters off into surrounding tissue. Scattered light is no longer strong enough to instantly remove cells, but is strong enough to cause general heat or thermal damage. Because CO2 lasers are not well absorbed by the water in the cells, a large amount of it energy is scattered away from the treatment area leaving behind thermal damage or burning. This unwanted thermal damage is what causes intense pain during treatment and results in long healing times. The Erbium laser has very little energy lost to scatter because it is so well absorbed by the water in the skin cells. This in turn results in next to no unnecessary thermal damage, which provides for a much more tolerable treatment and greatly increased healing times.

Cool Touch

A new breakthrough laser technology that beutifies skin is called the CoolTouch.  It is a Thermescent Skin Treatment that helps soften the signs of aging and promote softer, healthier looking skin without the big investment of time that other treatments require.

With a series of CoolTouch treatments you can see ongoing improvement in how your skin looks and feels.  That's because this advanced laser penetrates through the surface layers to work on a deeper level where collagen is formed.  The CoolTouch protects your outer skin and sensitive nerve endings with a unique cooling spray, then uses precise laser pulses to stimulate cells called fibroblasts which produce the natural collagen that is the foundation of your skin.

As the collagen layer thickens, skin tone and elasticity improve, and time-lines fade into a youthful glow.

CO2 Laser

Laser Skin resurfacing with the UltraPulse Aesthetic Laser erases sun damage and other imerfections and restore the healthy, youthful-looking appearance your skin once had, by gently and precisely removing microscopic layers of the skin, tightening sagging skin, and stimulating new collagen growth.

The thin, top layer of our skin (the epidermis) rests on a deeper layer (the dermis) that is composed of elastic fibers and collagen.  Collagen is the basic building bloock of skin, supplying structure and support.  Over time, the sun breaks down collagen, creating fibers that do not fully stretch and recoil.  This is what causes wrinkles and furrows.  The sun's rays also cause superficial skin lesions that can become cancerous.

No other laser provides tha precision, control, and accuracy of the UltraPulse.  Its high-energy beam vaporizes surface imperfections, dramatically reduces lines and wrinkles, and stimulates collagen growth to produce smoother, firmer, and younger-looking skin.  Patient confort and recovery time are enhanced, and the risks of scarring and changes in pigmentation are reduced.
